In memory of March...

What is going on this year?...
so far this month two friends have had bereavements, one her daughter, the other her mother and now my husband is having to cope with the sad loss of his father, who was a real gentleman.

Monday morning...

This was just a few weeks ago... but seems a distant memory now

it's so grey out there I thought a bit of colour might brighten the day

**********
It's been quiet on a lot of the blogs out there as well as on here...
especially one of my favourites who always cheers me up; the custards who seems to have dropped off the planet, I do hope all is well...
all quiet except lazy daisy jones who's a whirlwind of making and must be on something, whatever it is I wish she'd share it around!
mrs bertimus must also be on the same stuff and is producing some great art.

**********
I think perhaps a lot of us are taking stock of our lives

While away lazing on a beach looking at the sky you have time to put a lot of things into perspective...
I returned with the idea to close my etsy shop and get rid of all the wool, fabric and trimmings accumulated, I'll never use them all!
but have now decided to try and make the shop more cohesive and still de stash, so that presents the problem of how to sell them, maybe a table at a fair, but where, any ideas?

I'd prefer an open day here in the summer and offer tea and cake to anyone who turned up but I don't think many would be able to get to Dorset...

**********

This weekend brought sad news of two deaths, a friend's mother and another friend's daughter, only in her twenties...
something like that certainly puts things into perspective.

Enjoy even grey Mondays... x

Awaken...

You live like this, in a delicate world, and you believe you are living.
Then you read a book, or you take a trip, and you discover that you are not living, you are hibernating.
The symptoms of hibernating are easily detectable: first, restlessness.
The second symptom (when hibernating becomes dangerous and might degenerate into death): absence of pleasure.
That is all.
It appears like an innocuous illness.
Monotony, boredom, death. Millions live like this (or die like this) without knowing it.
They work in offices. They drive a car. They picnic with their families. They raise children.
And then some shock treatment takes place, a person, a book, a song, and it awakens them and saves them from death.
Some never awaken.

Akiko Ike...

The beautiful work of the Japanese quilter Akiko Ike
whose sashiko stitching is called chiku chiku - (the sound the needle makes going through the cloth)

I think making something like this could be very calming and therapeutic...

Happy new year...

Whatever you are doing on new years eve...
I hope next year will be a happy and healthy year for all of us xxx

23 December 2014

I wish you a very happy Christmas...

I know some of you have not had a good year,
for a few it has been a terrible year,
for a couple of you it's an anniversary you would rather forget.
For most of us, we have been very lucky if we think about it.

So here's wishing you all, a very happy Christmas... x

But does it snow at the seaside?...

It's not very cold, certainly not cold enough to snow... but does it snow at the seaside anyway?
A couple of Christmases ago in the village in London I remember the man and son walking through a heavy snowstorm to the corner to buy a Christmas tree, there was something almost Dickensian about it, in fact there were a couple of fantastic white winters.

mr dog loved walking through snow in the park

and the lake would freeze

the park lodges and seats looked so pretty

the chapel and it's gates

and great fun for my son arriving home from school

As this is one of the warmest Winters (so far) it doesn't look like a white Christmas this year
but even if it does cool drastically, does it snow at the seaside where I live now?
after all we use salt to melt the snow, and living so close to the sea with all the salt in the air, I can't imagine ever being snowed in here,
lots of you live by the sea, so tell me...
