Hello anybody still there?...

spotted on a walk - beautiful 30's looking tiles set into a wall

This is a bit like that feeling of going back to school after being off ill and wondering if your friends are still your friends, finding out what you've missed and trying to fit in again!
do you know what I mean?
I can't read all the posts I've missed so if there's anything that needs acknowledging please let me know.

Well we moved from London to Dorset...
and a month later they eventually put in a land line and internet!
and although I've spent years thinking we'd all be better off not having the continual invasion into our lives of the internet and phones, I have to tell you, being uprooted from 'the big smoke' to the seaside may be some people's dream, but not having any contact with the outside world and your friends for over a month puts a different perspective on it.
Our mobiles don't work inside the house for some reason, so we've been standing by the front door to contact people, and as I'm a bit of a neo-luddite (according to Wikipedia) and have spurned all attempts these last couple of years to replace my simple classic nokia with an iphone it's affected me doubly.

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. ” - Alvin Toffler acknowledging Herbert Gerjuoy

perhaps it's time I joined the 21st century...

I won't bore you with the move, what worked what didn't
and let's gloss over the fact my first trip out on my own found me going round the same roundabout four times ending up on the motorway back to London by mistake giving up and returning to the house in despair.

...memories of taking my son out when he was about six and him phoning home saying "daddy, we've driven over the same bridge three times now!"

well it was Vauxhall Bridge and I couldn't get into the left hand lane!

Went back to London at the beginning of March for the Country Living Fair
and while there...
saw these beautiful fountain pens from a small company called

talked with a lovely lady on the stand, entered a competition for the chance to win a pen by suggesting a new colour to add to their collection
ta daa... I was one of the lucky winners!
having never won anything before it was a bit of a surprise and certainly cheered me up

This absolutely beautiful pen arrived in the post, thank you Sally!

it has a lovely feel and weight to it
do click on their website plooms

Although being without the internet has been a nuisance...
not being able to find places or contact people or companies
it has had an upside
it's put a lot of things into perspective

do you know... some how I don't now feel I HAVE to be on here so much
or guilty if I don't manage to read every post from all the lovely bloggers followed
or the need to post here so often
we all have things to get on with don't we?
(especially if we ever get any nice weather)
so if you drop by and comment now and then that would be fantastic thank you xxx

    1. Oh thank you Willie x a lavender pen if they'd made one would have been my choice, no splash'in about yet, there would be too many people thinking they'd spotted Moby Dick.

  3. We live in a bit of a mobile phone black spot. Coverage is very patchy, at the best of times. Takes a bit of time to get used to a new area. It's a big thing moving away from all the things and people you know. Dorset is fabulous, sure you will settle down soon.

  4. Hello! I can relate to all of this. Last week was the first anniversary of our move from London to the seaside. I can honestly say it took about 9 months to feel settled. In fact contrary to what we had at first believed it was much harder for us to make the change than it was for the kids. You will get there!
Though the memories of not having internet and phone for a month still sting!
No matter how ready you feel to leave, London is a hard mistress to break up with!!

    1. Oh Nora you know exactly how I feel, thank you x Dorset is lovely, the people are very helpful and friendly, I spent the first part of my life in the countryside so should be OK. We didn't use London a lot when we lived there but it's still my home at the moment. I didn't want to leave but we all have to do things we don't want to do. You look as though you've made it x

  5. Hello and welcome to your new home - those tiles look wonderful.

I do not possess a mobile telephonic device and for many reasons I have no desire ever to do so but for work purposes I have to use Skype-like software and I have to keep up with the IT world so I think can straddle 'both worlds'. One of my many 'pet hate' phrases is...'Do you mind if I get this call...' I have spent a great deal of my working life being on call and that makes me rejoice not being contactable! Similarly with blogging - I now realise that the subliminal 'obligations' of blogging can become a burden so decided to divest myself of that and blog as and when!

On a lighter note - I used to cycle over Vauxhall bridge each day going to work - perilous given it was a clapped out old bike but with my trusty water squirter in my hand I felt that I could tackle anything!

    Enjoy the seaside
    Best wishes
    Jenny

    1. Thank you Jenny. x I hate the way some people immediately answer their phone and ignore the person they were talking to or answer it in the middle of a meal. Don't ever stop your blog! you make too many of us laugh.

    1. Thank you for your welcome Elaine x to think it's taken nearly a year when you first said hope you get here soon. We thought we'd sold to the first people who saw it but that all fell through. Strange about the reception for mobiles but perhaps not, considering all the hills. Dorset and especially the people are so friendly and helpful but I'm still missing familiar territory. xxx

  7. Hello my dear. Lovely to see you back.
I am so pleased to hear that one can still get a Classic Nokia. I shall go to the shops immediately. I dropped mine and broke the screen, a friend gave me her unwanted (basic) Samsung and I hate it (ungrateful person that I am) I just want a phone that makes and receives calls and texts.
One should ignore ones telephone when in company. It is extremely rude to do otherwise ;0)
    Hugs

    1. Hi Cally lovely to hear from you. This phone came new from ebay as I couldn't find one available in the shops, they were upgraded and more complicated than I wanted. If I have to get an iphone I'd be happy to send you this nokia if you want, trouble is it doesn't always ring, have to leave it by the door on wood to hear it vibrate, that's another reason it may be replaced! x

  9. good luck with the move, or rather the landing. I'm very interested to hear how you get on. I've often wondered about moving to the coast. I guess a transition is inevitable, but maybe good to change all the routines! Heather x

  10. Beautiful tiles, so evocative of a stress free, sunshine drenched life in the sun. Which I'm sure will all be yours soon. Just remember to keep breathing slowly and deeply until the dust settles :)

Oh and well done for winning the pen. I love winning things. Haven't won anything in a while though, must be my turn soon.

  11. I also belong to the 'uncontactable club' a rare breed but surviving. We moved from London to Cornwall (a bridge too far) then finally settled in West Sussex with no regrets... and London's still there! Enjoy the fresh air. xx
